Basis Information For Adult Endotracheal Tube
The adult endotracheal tube is a flexible, hollow, plastic tube
designed to be inserted into the trachea through the mouth or nose.
It comes in a range of sizes to accommodate different patient
anatomies, typically from 6.0 mm to 9.0 mm internal diameter for
adults.
The tube has an inflatable cuff near the distal end to create a
seal within the trachea and prevent air leakage.
Application
Provides a secure airway for the delivery of oxygen, anesthetic
gases, and mechanical ventilation.
Helps protect the airway from aspiration of secretions, blood, or
gastric contents.
Allows for suctioning of the trachea and bronchi to clear airway
obstructions.
